“Personal Experiences and Memories”

Welcome to “Intonation speaks.” 

Hello everyone and welcome to “Intonation speaks.” I’m Vy. For those of you who are listening and don’t know me, I’d like to give you a brief introduction about myself. I am currently living in a small suburb about 30 minutes away from Philadelphia. I’ve been living in this country for about 10 years total and a couple of years in Australia. Regarding my professional qualifications, I have a master degree in Applied Linguistics from Macquarie University, I’ve been teaching English for over 10 years now, and my focus is on teaching pronunciation and IELTS speaking. In this very first episode, we’ll dive into the IELTS speaking topic of personal experiences and memories. This is a popular theme in the speaking test, and I’ll provide you with examples and strategies to help you tackle it effectively. In each episode, there are going to be sample texts that we can listen to and dissect grammar structure and vocabularies to help you excel in your IELTS speaking exam. Join me as we explore a range of stimulating topics and equip you with the skills you need to confidently express your thoughts and ideas. Let’s get started! The question we have for today is: Can you describe a memorable trip you have taken?
This is an example text : “I’d like to share a memorable trip I took last summer to the beautiful city of Paris. Firstly, the Eiffel Tower was the highlight of my trip. The breathtaking view from the top left me in awe. I vividly remember standing on the observation deck and taking in the panoramic vistas of the city. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The streets of Paris were bustling with energy. The quaint cafes and charming cobblestone streets created a romantic ambiance. It felt like stepping into a dream.During my trip, I visited the Louvre Museum and was amazed by the art collections. I had always been fascinated by art, and being able to see masterpieces like the Mona Lisa up close was a surreal experience. The whole experience left me feeling exhilarated and grateful. It was a journey that not only allowed me to immerse myself in a different culture but also helped me appreciate the beauty and history of this magnificent city”

Đầu tiên mình sẽ phân tích bài nói phía trên về phương diện từ vựng và ngữ pháp 

1. Phần giới thiệu:  Bắt đầu câu trả lời của bạn với phần giới thiệu ngắn gọn trực tiếp. Nói ngắn gọn trực tiếp sẽ giúp bạn thiết lập ngữ cảnh và cung cấp trọng tâm rõ ràng cho câu trả lời của bạn. Bạn cũng có thể bao gồm những thông tin như đi với ai, thời gian nào, đi đâu. Ví dụ:  “I’d like to share a memorable trip I took last summer to the beautiful city of Paris.” Lưu ý cấu trúc I’d like to…là một cấu trúc phổ biến, thông dụng và dễ dùng để giới thiệu về chuyến đi. 

2: Từ vựng miêu tả

Để làm cho câu trả lời của bạn hấp dẫn hơn, bạn nên sử dụng từ vựng miêu tả bao gồm tính từ và trạng từ để khiến bài nói của mình trở nên sống động hơn. Việc này sẽ giúp bạn nâng điểm từ vựng và gây ấn tượng tốt với giám khảo. Ví dụ cụ thể trong bài là những cụm sau: 

Thay vì nói view bạn hãy dùng The breathtaking view.

Thay vì I remember I vividly remember

Thay vì nói the view of the city bạn có thể nói the panoramic vistas of the city: khung cảnh toàn thành phố

Thay vì nói it was wonderful thì hãy nói It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience

Ngoài ra bạn lưu ý cách dùng từ ngữ miêu tả trong cụm sau  The quaint cafes and charming cobblestone streets: Những quán cà phê cổ kính và những con đường lát đá quyến rũ

Bạn lưu ý việc sử dụng các thì thích hợp để truyền đạt thông tin về thời gian của chuyến đi là rất quan trọng giúp bạn ghi điểm phần ngữ pháp. Bạn hãy chú ý đến ngữ cảnh của câu hỏi và chọn thì phù hợp nhất.
Ở đây, trong câu trả lời này, đa số câu có dùng thì quá khứ I visited, was amazed vì câu hỏi yêu cầu bạn kể lại một trải nghiệm trong quá khứ  
Example: “During my trip, I visited the Louvre Museum and was amazed by the art collections. I had always been fascinated by art, and being able to see masterpieces like the Mona Lisa up close was a surreal experience.”

Thứ 3, bạn cần lưu ý về Từ miêu tả cảm xúc: Trong câu trả lời, bạn nên sử dụng từ ngữ để biểu hiện cảm xúc để truyền đạt những cảm nghĩ tích cực của mình về chuyến đi. Điều này giúp tạo kết nối với người nghe và thêm chiều sâu cho câu trả lời của bạn.
